OVERSEAS ASSIGNED MEDICAL ORGANIZATIONS
Assigned Medical OrganizationsSince 1981, JSMAC has been working on improving the network of overseas assigned medical organizations and intermediaries. Because overseas medical treatment involves special challenges, including time constraints and language barriers, reliable relationships between doctors and patients are crucial. Therefore, at each major port we exchange a memorandum to facilities trouble-free medical care for crewmembers belonging to JSMAC member companies with the reliable medical organizations(including dental services) recommended by the overseas local agents.
Today, the JSMAC network has a global reach, extending to 140 medical organizations, including 32 dental clinics, located in 114 ports in 57 countries

INTERMEDIARYAn intermediary plays a key role in JSMAC’S overseas network, providing assistance to crewmembers unacquainted with a particular foreign language or locality. We select an intermediary who possesses the language skills to translate Japanese and facilitate communication between crew members and medical personnel. Most are local resident representatives working for the overseas offices of JSMAC-member shipping companies.
If no such a person is available, JSMAC makes volunteer arrangements with a local Japanese resident or Japanese-speaking resident.
